Top 7 Surrey Birth & Parenting Resources

Top 7 Surrey Birth & Parenting Resources

Becoming a new mum is one of life’s most powerful transitions, but it can also be overwhelming. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, you quickly realise that having a strong support network around you makes all the difference. As a postnatal doula working across Surrey for many years, I’ve seen first-hand just how vital the right help can be — not just in the early weeks, but throughout your whole parenting journey.

The good news is, Surrey is full of wonderful, trusted birth and parenting resources. From feeding support and baby groups to counselling services and health clinics, there’s a wealth of support right on your doorstep. But when you’re sleep-deprived, anxious or trying to juggle it all, finding those resources can feel like just another task on your list. So, I’ve pulled together this carefully chosen list of the top seven birth and parenting resources in Surrey — the ones I most often recommend to the families I work with through Postnatal Helping Hands. Whether you’re in Guildford, Woking, Epsom or anywhere in between, I hope this guide helps you feel a little more held.

1. Surrey Heartlands Infant Feeding Team

Feeding your baby — however you choose to do it — can be an emotional rollercoaster. The Surrey Heartlands Infant Feeding Team offers excellent, evidence-based support for both breastfeeding and bottle-feeding. Run by the NHS and local health visitors, the team includes Infant Feeding Leads who offer drop-in clinics, phone support and one-to-one home visits in some areas. They’re knowledgeable, compassionate, and focused on helping you feed your baby in a way that works for you.

If you’re struggling with latch, pain, positioning, low milk supply, combination feeding or just need someone to talk to, these services are a lifeline. Clinics run in towns like Woking, Guildford, Epsom and Redhill. Always check your local family centre or GP surgery noticeboard for times and details, or ask your health visitor directly.

Key services include:

  • Breastfeeding assessments and latch support

  • Bottle-feeding and combination feeding advice

  • Responsive feeding guidance

  • Tongue-tie referrals

  • Virtual support sessions

2. Children and Family Health Surrey (CFHS)

Children and Family Health Surrey is a partnership of NHS services for children and parents across the county. For new mums, this is often your first point of contact for ongoing care after the midwife discharges you. They provide health visiting services, emotional wellbeing support, and developmental checks.

Each local area has its own team, but the services are broadly similar. Your health visitor will usually offer you a new birth visit, weigh-ins, and baby’s 6–8 week check. What many parents don’t realise is that these teams also support you, not just the baby. If you’re feeling low, anxious or isolated, your health visitor can help connect you to local support groups, parenting courses, or counselling.

Their website also has helpful online resources on topics like:

  • Sleep and settling

  • Crying and colic

  • Baby development stages

  • Maternal mental health

3. The Daisy Foundation – Surrey Classes

The Daisy Foundation runs brilliant antenatal and postnatal classes across the UK, and there are several certified teachers working in Surrey. I’ve had many clients attend these classes and come away feeling much more confident and connected. What I love about Daisy is that it blends birth education with movement, breathing and relaxation — so it’s ideal if you want something gentle but informative.

Postnatal classes like “Daisy Baby” and “Daisy Mama” are especially valuable, offering group support, movement for recovery, and real conversations with other mums. Teachers often host sessions in community halls across Surrey towns like Farnham, Guildford, and Dorking. Check their class finder to see what’s near you.

4. Home-Start Surrey

Parenting can feel incredibly lonely — especially if you don’t have family nearby. Home-Start Surrey is a local charity that provides trained volunteers who visit you at home once a week to offer practical help and emotional support. I’ve known families who said their Home-Start volunteer changed everything. Just having someone reliable to talk to, who isn’t judging you and who genuinely cares, can make all the difference.

They support families with at least one child under 5, and it’s free. You can be referred by your health visitor or self-refer on their website.

Support might include:

  • A weekly home visit from a trained volunteer

  • Help getting out to appointments or baby groups

  • Support with routines, sleep or feeding

  • A listening ear during tough weeks

You can find them at: https://www.home-start.org.uk/home-start-surrey

5. Surrey Libraries – Rhymetimes and Parent Support

It’s easy to overlook your local library, but Surrey’s library services are surprisingly brilliant when it comes to supporting new parents. Rhymetimes — free song and rhyme sessions for babies and toddlers — are run in nearly every branch across the county, and they’re a lovely first outing for new parents. No pressure, no sign-up needed, and it gets you out of the house.

Libraries also often host parent meetups, mental health drop-ins, and have breastfeeding-friendly spaces. Some even offer baby-changing and feeding rooms. Guildford, Woking, Redhill and Camberley libraries all run regular sessions.

Beyond books, many libraries now offer:

  • Parenting DVDs and guides

  • Free access to Baby Buddy app and NHS resources

  • Parent coffee mornings and baby-friendly spaces

  • A quiet, warm space to feed or rest

6. The NCT – Local Surrey Branches

The National Childbirth Trust has been a trusted name in parenting for decades, and their Surrey branches continue to offer both antenatal education and postnatal support. While some classes have a fee, many events are free or low cost. The biggest benefit is the community. The friendships formed in NCT groups often last for years.

Surrey branches include areas like Epsom, Guildford, Woking, and Reigate. Each one runs its own calendar of events — from buggy walks and sling libraries to weaning workshops and baby first aid. NCT is also a great place to volunteer if you’re looking to rebuild confidence or give back once you’ve found your feet again.

Whether you’ve just had your baby or you’re weeks in and feeling exhausted, I work with you at your pace. My focus is on rest, recovery and reassurance — I help with feeding, newborn care, light household tasks, and emotional support. You won’t be judged, rushed or expected to have it all together. I’m here to help you catch your breath and find calm again.

If you’re looking for a postnatal doula in Surrey, I’d love to hear from you. I cover most areas across the county and offer daytime, overnight and flexible support options. You can find out more about doula services in Surrey here.

  • Practical help at home (light tasks, baby care, bottle prep)

  • Feeding support (breast or bottle)

  • Emotional reassurance and space to talk

  • Sibling support and family rhythm help

  • Calm, consistent one-to-one care

Parenting isn’t something we’re meant to do alone, especially not in those raw, early weeks. Whether you need help with feeding, someone to hold the baby while you shower, or just a place to cry and be heard, there is support for you in Surrey. Don’t be afraid to reach out — even small acts of help can make a world of difference to how you feel and how your family thrives.

If you’re unsure where to start or what you need, I’m always happy to chat. Supporting new mums in Surrey is what I do, and I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
